Chamaecyparis nootkatensis Glauca

Blue Nootka false cypress

Evergreen conifer with a narrow to broadly pyramidal habit and gracefully drooping branchlets. Over time, it develops into a dense, elegant tree with a slightly weeping appearance, bringing both structure and softness to landscape designs.

The foliage is composed of flattened sprays with fine, scale-like leaves. Its color ranges from blue-green to silvery-blue, giving a cool, glaucous tone that remains consistent throughout the year. This coloration is most pronounced in full sun and may appear slightly greener in partial shade.

Chamaecyparis nootkatensis ‘Glauca’ prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates a variety of soil types, including slightly acidic conditions, but does not perform well in dry or poorly drained soils. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, good resistance to urban pollution, and moderate tolerance to salt. It is well suited as a specimen tree, for screens, or as a vertical accent in landscape compositions.
