Golden Weeping Willow

Salix alba ‘Tristis’ is a large, fast-growing deciduous tree with a broad crown and long, elegant, pendulous branches that sweep gracefully toward the ground. It is one of the most iconic weeping trees, providing dramatic form and cooling shade in large landscapes.

The narrow lance-shaped leaves emerge silvery-green in spring, mature to bright green above with silvery undersides in summer, and turn yellow in autumn. In early spring, before or as the leaves emerge, yellow-green catkins appear, providing an important early-season source of pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinators.

Salix alba ‘Tristis’ grows best in full sun and moist to wet, well-drained soils. It thrives near ponds, lakes, streams, and other water features but also tolerates average garden soils if provided with adequate moisture. Once established, it tolerates occasional flooding and moderate urban conditions.
