Picea Pungens ‘Hoopsii’

Hoopsii Blue Spruce

Evergreen conifer with a strong, regular pyramidal habit, forming a dense and highly ornamental specimen tree. It is one of the most intensely blue cultivars of Colorado Blue Spruce, widely valued for its striking foliage color and uniform, architectural form.

The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely along the branches. The needles display an exceptionally vivid silvery-blue to bright ice-blue coloration, often considered among the brightest and most consistent blue tones in all spruce cultivars. The dense branching structure enhances its formal, symmetrical appearance year-round.

Picea pungens ‘Hoopsii’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It grows best in sandy, loamy, or rocky soils and requires good air circulation. It does not tolerate prolonged wet conditions or heavy shade. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold hardiness, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for specimen planting, formal landscapes, large gardens, and focal evergreen accents where strong color is desired.
