Microbiota Decussata

Siberian Cypress

Evergreen conifer with a low, spreading habit, forming a dense, graceful groundcover. Its flexible branches extend outward in layered sprays, creating a soft, flowing appearance that resembles a juniper but with a finer texture and a more delicate character.

The foliage is composed of small, scale-like leaves arranged in flattened sprays. Its color is medium green to dark green during the growing season, often taking on attractive bronze, copper, or purplish tones in winter. The foliage remains soft to the touch and is generally less prickly than many junipers.

Microbiota decussata prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It performs well in sandy, rocky, or moderately fertile soils and tolerates cold climates exceptionally well. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold hardiness, and good resistance to pests and diseases. It is ideal for groundcover, slopes, rock gardens, woodland edges, and erosion control.
