Deciduous conifer with a strong, upright, broadly pyramidal habit, forming a tall and elegant landscape specimen. Its growth is fast in youth and develops into a stately, well-balanced tree with a straight central trunk and evenly spaced branching.
The foliage is composed of soft, feathery, opposite needles arranged in flat sprays along the shoots. Its color is bright fresh green in spring and summer, turning a warm coppery-orange to reddish-brown in autumn before dropping completely, as it is a deciduous conifer.
Metasequoia glyptostroboides prefers full sun and moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Unlike many conifers, it tolerates wet soils and periodic flooding, making it especially useful in low-lying or water-retentive sites. Once established, it shows good cold hardiness, moderate drought tolerance (if not prolonged), and good adaptability to urban conditions. It is ideal for large landscape plantings, parks, specimen trees, and restoration in moist environments.
