Blue Danube Savin Juniper

Evergreen conifer with a low, spreading to slightly mounded habit, forming a dense, wide shrub. Its branches extend outward in layered, somewhat arching sprays, creating a textured, natural-looking groundcover with a bit more volume than flatter varieties.

The foliage is composed mainly of fine, scale-like leaves, sometimes mixed with juvenile needle-like growth. Its color is a soft blue-green to silvery-blue, giving a cool tone that contrasts well with greener plants. In colder seasons, it may develop slight purplish hues. When crushed, the foliage releases a strong, characteristic odor typical of Juniperus sabina.

Juniperus sabina ‘Blue Danube’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil, thriving in poor, sandy, or rocky conditions. It tolerates dry to moderately dry soils and performs well in exposed, harsh environments. Once established, it shows high drought tolerance, good resistance to difficult conditions, and moderate tolerance to pollution and salt. It is ideal for groundcover, slopes, rock gardens, and erosion control.
