Juniperus Procumbens

Japanese Garden Juniper

Low-growing evergreen conifer with a spreading to slightly mounded habit and gracefully trailing branches. It forms a dense, irregular mat that can also develop a sculptural character over time, making it especially valued in both groundcover use and bonsai.

The foliage is fine-textured, composed of short, needle-like juvenile leaves that are soft yet slightly prickly. Its color is a fresh green to blue-green, maintaining a lively and natural appearance year-round. In full sun, the tones are brighter, while in partial shade they deepen slightly.

Juniperus procumbens prefers full sun and well-drained soil, thriving in poor, sandy, or rocky conditions. It tolerates moderately dry to dry soils and adapts well to exposed environments. Once established, it shows high drought tolerance, good resistance to urban pollution, and moderate tolerance to salt. It is ideal for rock gardens, slopes, containers, and especially bonsai.
