Compact, slow-growing evergreen conifer with a low, spreading to gently mounding habit. Over time, it forms a dense, slightly irregular shrub with softly arching branches that tend to spread outward rather than grow upright, giving it a broad, flowing presence in the landscape. The foliage is composed of fine, scale-like needles that are bright golden-yellow on the outer growth, especially vivid in full sun, while inner foliage may retain a greener tone.
Its golden coloration is most intense in sunny positions, where the plant develops its richest color and densest form. In partial shade, the color may become more subdued and greenish-gold. Compared to more upright junipers, ‘Gold Coast’ has a softer, more horizontal structure that naturally spreads and fills space over time.
It performs best in full sun and well-drained locations, showing strong drought tolerance once established. It is commonly used in rock gardens, slopes, mass plantings, foundation plantings, and low borders, where its spreading habit provides excellent ground coverage and year-round color contrast. It also works well in larger containers, where its cascading edges can soften hard surfaces.
