Chamaecyparis Pisifera ‘Sungold’

Dwarf Golden False Cypress

Compact, slow-growing dwarf conifer with a low, mounding to slightly spreading habit and a distinctly soft, cascading appearance. It forms a dense, rounded shrub over time, with gracefully arching branches that give it a flowing, almost feathery look. The foliage is made up of fine, thread-like sprays that are bright golden-yellow, maintaining a vibrant, luminous quality throughout the year.

Its golden color is most intense in full sun, while in partial shade it may soften to a yellow-green tone. Compared to similar cultivars, ‘Sungold’ tends to have a more pronounced weeping effect and a looser, more textured form.

It performs best in full sun to partial shade, in a sheltered location protected from harsh winter winds.

Widely used in rock gardens, foundation plantings, borders, and containers, it provides excellent color contrast and soft texture. Its cascading habit also makes it well-suited for edging, slopes, or spilling gently over walls, where it adds movement and year-round visual interest.
