Acer X Freemanii ‘Armstrong gold’

Armstrong Gold Freeman Maple

Acer × freemanii ‘Armstrong Gold’ is a deciduous ornamental tree with a very narrow, upright columnar habit, making it an excellent choice for streetscapes and landscapes with limited planting space. This improved Freeman Maple cultivar is prized for its rapid growth, strong branch structure, excellent adaptability, and brilliant golden-yellow to orange-red autumn foliage.

The foliage consists of medium green, deeply lobed leaves that combine the attractive form of Red Maple with the vigor of Silver Maple. In autumn, the leaves develop vibrant shades of golden yellow, orange, and orange-red, creating outstanding seasonal interest.

Acer × freemanii ‘Armstrong Gold’ thrives in full sun and moist, well-drained soils but adapts well to clay, loam, and sandy soils. It tolerates urban conditions, heat, periodic wet soils, and moderate drought once established. Its narrow habit makes it ideal for street plantings, boulevards, parking lots, residential landscapes, and tight planting spaces.
