Phellodendron amurense ‘His Majesty’ is a large deciduous shade tree with a broad oval to rounded crown and a strong, symmetrical branching structure. This male cultivar is prized for its deeply furrowed corky bark, attractive compound foliage, and freedom from messy fruit production.

The foliage consists of large pinnately compound leaves that emerge bright green in spring, mature to rich dark green during summer, and turn brilliant golden yellow in autumn. In late spring, small greenish-yellow flowers appear in loose clusters. As a male cultivar, ‘His Majesty’ does not produce fruit, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for urban landscapes.

Phellodendron amurense ‘His Majesty’ grows best in full sun and well-drained soils but adapts well to clay, loam, and urban soils. Once established, it tolerates drought, heat, pollution, and road salt. It is well suited for parks, large residential properties, streetscapes, and specimen plantings.
