White Pine

Evergreen conifer with a tall, straight, and graceful pyramidal habit when young, becoming more open and broadly irregular with age. It is one of the most elegant native North American pines, valued for its soft texture, fast growth, and refined landscape presence.

The foliage consists of long, soft, flexible needles grouped in bundles of five. The needles are blue-green to silvery green, giving the tree a light, airy texture compared to many denser pines. This soft foliage, combined with its tall, flowing structure, creates a distinctive and graceful silhouette.

Pinus strobus prefers full sun to light shade and well-drained, slightly acidic soils. It performs best in sandy or loamy soils and does not tolerate heavy clay, prolonged wetness, or high wind exposure in poor conditions. Once established, it shows good growth rate, moderate drought tolerance, and good cold hardiness. It is ideal for large landscapes, naturalized plantings, screens, windbreaks, and woodland-style gardens.
