Picea Pungens ‘Koster’

Koster Blue Spruce

Evergreen conifer with a strong, regular pyramidal habit, forming a dense and well-balanced ornamental tree. It is a classic Colorado Blue Spruce selection valued for its reliable form, strong structure, and consistent silvery-blue foliage.

The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely along the branches. The needles display a bright silvery-blue to medium blue coloration, typically slightly softer and more uniform than the most intensely blue cultivars such as ‘Hoopsii’. The overall appearance is formal, symmetrical, and dependable in landscape use.

Picea pungens ‘Koster’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It performs well in sandy, loamy, and rocky soils and requires good air circulation. It does not tolerate prolonged wet conditions or heavy shade. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold hardiness, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for specimen planting, windbreaks, screens, and large-scale ornamental landscapes where a reliable blue spruce form is desired.
