Picea Pungens ‘Fat Albert’

Fat Albert Blue Spruce

Evergreen conifer with a broad, dense, and strongly pyramidal habit, forming a very uniform and compact large shrub to small tree. It is one of the most popular Colorado Blue Spruce selections, valued for its exceptional blue color, symmetrical shape, and reliable performance in ornamental landscapes.

The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely along strong horizontal branches. The needles display a rich silvery-blue to deep steel-blue coloration, often more intense and consistent than seed-grown forms. The overall structure is very regular, creating a bold, architectural evergreen presence.

Picea pungens ‘Fat Albert’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It adapts well to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils but does not tolerate prolonged wet conditions or heavy shade. Once established, it shows good drought tolerance, excellent cold hardiness, and strong wind resistance. It is ideal for specimen planting, foundation landscapes, screens, windbreaks, and formal evergreen compositions.
