Evergreen conifer with a narrow, strongly upright fastigiate habit, forming a tall, columnar to narrowly pyramidal tree. It is a selected form of Colorado Blue Spruce valued for its vertical structure and intense blue foliage, making it especially useful in tight spaces or formal architectural designs.
The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely around the upward-reaching branches. The needles display a striking silvery-blue to steel-blue coloration, often most intense in full sun and cooler climates. The tight branching habit enhances its vertical silhouette and year-round visual impact.
Picea pungens ‘Glauca Fastigiata’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It adapts to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils but does not tolerate prolonged wet conditions. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold tolerance, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for narrow landscape corridors, formal plantings, screens, vertical accents, and architectural compositions.
