Thume Blue Spruce

Dwarf evergreen conifer with a compact, irregular globose to broadly conical habit, forming a dense and textured miniature spruce. It is a slow-growing selection of Colorado Blue Spruce valued for its very tight branching, strong blue foliage, and naturally sculptural form.

The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely along short shoots. The needles display an intense silvery-blue to steel-blue coloration, often most vibrant in full sun and cooler conditions. The dense, somewhat irregular branching gives the plant a unique, artistic appearance compared to more uniform dwarf selections.

Picea pungens ‘Thume’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It adapts to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils but does not tolerate prolonged wetness. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold tolerance, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for rock gardens, dwarf conifer collections, specimen planting, and small ornamental landscapes where unique structure and strong color are desired.
