Dwarf evergreen conifer with a dense, broad pyramidal to rounded habit, forming a compact, highly symmetrical specimen. It is a slow-growing selection of Colorado Blue Spruce valued for its strong blue coloration, uniform structure, and reliable ornamental performance.
The foliage consists of stiff, sharply pointed needles arranged densely along the branches. The needles display an intense silvery-blue to steel-blue coloration, often deeper and more consistent than seed-grown forms. The dense branching gives the plant a refined, full appearance year-round.
Picea pungens ‘Montgomery’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It adapts well to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils but does not tolerate prolonged wet conditions. Once established, it shows moderate drought tolerance, excellent cold tolerance, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for specimen planting, foundation beds, rock gardens, and formal evergreen compositions where strong color and structure are desired.
