Dwarf evergreen conifer with a distinctive nest-like, flat to slightly depressed rounded habit, forming a dense, spreading mound. Over time, it develops a broad, cushion-shaped structure with a shallow center, giving it its characteristic “bird’s nest” appearance.
The foliage consists of short, stiff, bright to dark green needles arranged densely along short shoots. The texture is fine but compact, creating a solid evergreen presence at ground level throughout the year.
Picea abies ‘Nidiformis’ prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It adapts well to sandy, loamy, and rocky soils and does not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Once established, it shows good cold hardiness, moderate drought tolerance, and reliable performance in a wide range of temperate landscapes. It is ideal for foundation plantings, rock gardens, massing, and low evergreen structure in ornamental beds.
