Dwarf evergreen conifer with a very dense, rounded to flattened globular habit, forming a compact cushion-like mound. It is a slow-growing selection of Norway spruce, valued for its miniature size and extremely tight branching structure, making it ideal for small gardens and rockeries.
The foliage consists of short, stiff, dark green needles that are densely packed along the short shoots, creating a rich, fine-textured appearance year-round. Its compact form gives it a tidy, sculptural quality without the need for pruning.
Picea abies ‘Little Gem’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil, performing best in slightly acidic to neutral soils. It does not tolerate waterlogged conditions but adapts well to sandy, loamy, and rocky substrates. Once established, it shows excellent cold hardiness, moderate drought tolerance, and good resistance to wind exposure. It is ideal for rock gardens, alpine gardens, containers, troughs, and small-scale landscape designs.
