Evergreen conifer with a low, spreading to slightly arching habit, forming a broad, soft-looking shrub. Its branches extend outward with a graceful, layered structure, creating a loose but full mound rather than a tight groundcover. Over time it develops a wide, flowing shape with a natural, slightly informal character.

The foliage is composed of fine, scale-like leaves with some juvenile needle-like growth, giving it a textured appearance. Its color is a soft silvery-gray to blue-gray, often with a hazy, smoky tone that becomes more pronounced in full sun and cooler weather.

Juniperus virginiana ‘Grey Owl’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil, thriving in sandy, rocky, or lean soils. It does not tolerate wet or poorly drained conditions. Once established, it shows high drought tolerance, excellent cold hardiness, and good resistance to urban conditions. It is ideal for foundation plantings, slopes, naturalized areas, and large shrub borders.
