Juniperus Horizontalis ‘Wiltonii’

Blue Rug Juniper

Low-growing evergreen conifer with a broad, spreading habit and trailing, slightly cascading branches. It forms a dense, flat mat that closely hugs the ground, making it one of the most popular choices for uniform groundcover and erosion control.

The foliage is very fine-textured, composed of small, scale-like leaves. Its color is a striking silvery-blue to steel-blue, maintaining a cool tone throughout the year. In winter, it may take on slight purplish hues, adding subtle seasonal variation.

Juniperus horizontalis ‘Wiltonii’ prefers full sun and well-drained soil, thriving in poor, sandy, or rocky conditions. It tolerates moderately dry to dry soils and performs well in exposed sites. Once established, it shows high drought tolerance, strong resistance to urban pollution, and moderate tolerance to salt. It is ideal for slopes, rock gardens, retaining walls, and as a durable, low-maintenance groundcover.
