Juniperus Chinensis ‘Hetzii’

Hetz Blue Juniper

Compact, moderately fast-growing evergreen conifer with an upright to broadly spreading habit. It develops into a dense, somewhat irregular shrub or small tree over time, with strong, arching branches that give it a full, structural presence in the landscape. The foliage is composed of fine, scale-like needles with a soft green to blue-green (glaucous) coloration, often maintaining a cool, muted tone throughout the year.

Its color remains fairly stable in all seasons, with the best density and form achieved in full sun. In partial shade, the foliage may appear slightly looser and less compact, with a more subdued blue-green tone. Compared to more ornamental golden cultivars, ‘Hetzii’ is valued for its reliability, vigorous structure, and natural, architectural form rather than bright color.

It performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and very adaptable to a range of conditions. It is widely used in hedges, screens, windbreaks, mass plantings, and background structure in large gardens, where its dense habit provides year-round privacy and stability. It can also be used as a specimen in larger landscapes where a strong evergreen framework is needed.
