Compact, very slow-growing dwarf conifer with a dense, rounded to slightly irregular habit. It gradually forms a tight, sculptural mound, making it especially valued for its refined, architectural presence in small spaces. The foliage is deep green, composed of short, shell-like, fan-shaped sprays that curl slightly, creating a rich, layered texture typical of Hinoki cypress.
Unlike golden cultivars, its dark green color provides a calm, grounding contrast in the landscape and remains consistent year-round. Best color and form are achieved in full sun to partial shade, with some protection from harsh winter winds.
It is widely used in rock gardens, alpine settings, bonsai, and container plantings, where its extremely slow growth and elegant texture offer long-lasting structure and visual interest.
